The Different Types of Coffee Machines

Looking for a coffee maker? Get ready to be surprised. You will find more designs of coffee machines than you bargained for. In addition, you will also find that coffee machines use different brewing principles.

The earliest machines were coffee percolators, which were developed because the vacuum principle of making coffee was a bit too cumbersome for home use. The present day electric coffee percolators are based on the same principle as the one developed and patented in late 19th century.

The commonly used method in modern machines is automatic drip-brew. Coffee grounds are placed in a filter (paper or metal) in a funnel. There is a separate chamber for cold water, which is boiled and directed into the funnel. Electric drip force cold water from a reservoir through a flexible hose into a tube-like heating chamber made of aluminum. Most machines use pressure induced by heating to siphon heated water through a spray into the chamber containing ground coffee.

There are also coffee machines with a different type of automatic drip brewing mechanism. These machines use the water displacement method. This is a fast way of preparing a cup of coffee and more suited for offices and restaurants.

Coffee machines are primarily a method of preparing coffee from coffee beans. They may use different techniques but the most important part of turning beans into a delectable beverage is still the selection of the raw material, beans. Regardless of automatic or manual machines, the basic steps are the same and involve grounding of beans, brewing and then separation of used grounds.
